Mudgee Wineries Present Two ‘Must See’ Master Classes at Balmoral

The Mudgee wine scene is well known to Sydney-siders for many things; but perhaps mostly for the distinctiveness of its ‘Traditional’ varieties such as Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Riesling; and increasingly for the sheer range and quality of its ‘Alternative’ varieties – from Italy, Austria, Germany, Croatia, Portugal and Spain as well as from France.
Over two sessions – one morning, one afternoon - Mudgee vignerons will let the public into their world of wine….

An Orienteering Guide to Mudgee Wine

10.30 to 11.30 am – Two of New South Wales’ best-known wine gurus – David Lowe of Lowe Family Wines and Darren Jahn of Robert Oatleys – will take you on a journey through our  tradition varietal styles, alerting you to  many of the distinctive personalities of Mudgee’s wines. Attendees will then be perfectly equipped to experience these for themselves as they visit over thirty Mudgee wineries represented at Balmoral.

An Alternative Look at Mudgee Wines

1.30 to 2.30 pm – The afternoon Master Class offers attendees a rare chance to hear about and to taste in one sitting a range of what are (still) called ‘Alternative Wine Styles – Rieslings (Germany), Sangiovese and Barbera (Italy), Chambourcin, Pinot Gris and Viognier (France), Tempranillo (Spain), Touriga (Portugal), Zinfandel (ah… Croatia). These styles, and many more alike, cannot be ignored any longer in the lexicon of ‘Australian Wine’.
